What’s New for 2022

The Wanless Board is following the City of Toronto’s protocols to aid in helping to keep our members, staff, and community safe and healthy when using our facility.

We have put together the following Wanless COVID-19 FAQs to assist our members in understanding the current guidelines of play at Wanless. These could be modified and adjusted as the season progresses and updates are potentially released from the City and the province.

Wanless Park Tennis is a seasonal club that runs from April to the end of October. Our club is a member of the Ontario Tennis Association and Tennis Toronto, and has twice been awarded the OTA’s Outstanding Club Achievement Award.

Not a Member? There are Still Ways to Play

  • Members are entitled to book a court with a guest up to four times per month. Note that guests must arrive at the clubhouse at least 10 minutes prior to their booked court time to complete a COVID pre-screening questionnaire, sign a waiver, and pay the guest fee of $10.00 per person per day.
  • If you aren’t a member, and don’t know a member who can invite you as a guest, you are still welcome to play on any unbooked courts as a “non-member” during normal hours of operation (see above). Non-members are not able to book in advance, but can enquire at the clubhouse to confirm the availability of courts. Philpott Children’s Tennis Fund

philpott-bannerWe encourage the community to support the Doug Philpott Inner-City Children’s Tennis Fund. You can do this by purchasing a donation in our on-line store. You will receive a charitable receipt at the end of the year from the Fund.

Since 1991, the Philpott Children’s Tennis Fund has helped introduce Toronto’s inner-city children to tennis. Founded out of a desire to honour the memory of Doug Philpott – one of the great folk heroes of Canadian tennis – the Fund provides free lessons, from qualified coaches and instructors, to kids throughout Toronto’s diverse neighbourhoods. Here, coaches teach not only the basics of the game, but also help participants learn valuable life lessons about discipline, cooperation and self-confidence.

In 2021, Wanless Tennis contributed a total of $3,315 to the Doug Philpott Inner-City Children’s Tennis Fund – $830 contributed by individual members and $2,485 which came from the Ladder proceeds. We are looking to do even better in 2022!
