Wanless Tennis July News

We hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful summer of Tennis on the Wanless courts. Some updates below.

Adult News

Wanless Teams

The two men's teams in the TMTL have finished their seasons. While neither team will be in the playoffs, the B1 team successfully managed to stay in this very competitive division and the B2 team finished in a respectable eighth place, its best finish since the team was added in 2018.

Our ladies TLTL Division 1 evening team is in the middle of the pack with two games left, and our evening Division 5 team is making a late season press and has climbed out of the basement.

The TLTL daytime B1 is congratulated on a hard fought second place finish that went down to the last match! The winning Bayview team will be looking over its shoulder next year!

The plucky daytime ladies NYTA Division 1 team continues to practise hard to engineer a win in one of its last four matches! Best wishes!

Lessons

Adult summer programs are underway. There are plenty of options to choose from. If your schedule doesn’t align with a clinic, you can book a private or semi-private lesson on the same theme. Connect with a couple friends and contact our Head Pro to book yourself in.

Ladders

It’s never too late to join the ladders. Click here for more information and login details. Did you know that after 5 matches (win or lose), a player earns a wildcard where they can challenge anyone above them? Please take a few minutes to review the rules and learn other tips.

Wanless 2024 Tournament

The tournament will run from August 10 (for the larger draws such as Men’s B Singles and Doubles) and run through to “Finals Day” on September 28. Registration will open soon. Look out for an email coming with details.

Guest Fees

We have received many enquiries regarding the payment of outstanding guest fees with members wondering why we are asking for balances to be paid. While CourtReserve does allow a member to save their payment profile to their account, the system will not automatically take or initiate a payment. When you book a court with one or more guests, we encourage you not to pay the fee right away, but rather keep the ‘balance owing’ in your account until you have played your match. That way, in the event of bad weather or a schedule change, any guest fees will be automatically deleted if your court booking is cancelled. However, if you do play your match with your guest(s), the system will not automatically take your payment and will remain on your account balance until paid. Members need to log into their account and settle their balances themselves. CourtReserve or our MSR team cannot do this for you.

While discussing Guest fees, remember that fees are waived for Juniors (under 18) and Student guests (appropriate ID must be presented). It is helpful for our staff if you indicate “junior” or “student” with the surname of your guest when you book the court, e.g. “John Smith (junior)” or “Sue Smith (student)” to expedite the process. Contact the clubhouse to have them waive any guest fees for juniors and students.

Ball Machine

The ball machines are now back in service and can be booked on-line through CourtReserve. Given the extensive repairs and effort that is required to keep the ball machines in service, no further repairs will be undertaken on the ball machines this season. Instructions have been prepared to explain how to set up and use the ball machines. We strongly encourage members to review these instructions and/or request assistance from the MSR on duty.
