Wanless Tennis April News

We were very lucky to start our outdoor tennis season with a run of fantastic weather. It was great seeing so many members out on the courts! Remember to mark your calendar for our opening BBQ and Adult round robin on Saturday May 6. Details to follow prior to May 6.

Welcome New Members

Our New Member Welcome Committee is getting mobilized to welcome new members to the Wanless Park Community Tennis Club and help them to quickly feel at home and meet other members. We are looking for volunteers. If you are interested in joining the committee, please reach out to Andre Romanovskiy or Griffin Brockman.

Check out the programs that are starting this month:

Spring House League

Reminder - we will have both Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday evening House Leagues this Spring season. Deadline to register is April 23. For more information and links to registration, visit our house league webpage.

Adult Daytime Doubles Drop-Ins

Lucky enough to have some daytime schedule flexibility to play tennis? Looking to expand your circle of available playing partners? The popular Thursday morning adult drop-in will feature returns for its 2nd season in a round robin format to promote social interaction.

The Thursday morning drop-in is from 10 AM to 12 PM and will start April 20 on courts 4 & 5.

No registration is necessary, just show up and a volunteer will assign you to a court. Shuffles will occur every half hour.

Adult Friday Night Live Ball

Live Ball starts this Friday! Live Ball is a fast-paced on-court experience that works on doubles strategy and strokes, particularly volleys. Please register by noon every Friday.

How it works: Two “challengers” compete for points against two “champions”. Every point starts with a feed from the coach to the challengers. If the challengers win four (4) points before the champions win two (2) points, the challengers become the champions.

Payment of $25.00 per player will be made ten minutes before the start time at the courts using credit card or tap enabled device.

For more information and weekly registration, go to our Live Ball webpage.

Friday Night Adult Drop in

The Friday night adult drop in will start on April 21. Court 5 will be reserved at 7 and 8 PM for round robin play. Intermediate members (self rating of 3.0 – 3.5) are encouraged to play at 7 PM, advanced players (self rating of 4.0 – 4.5) play at 8 PM.

No pre-registration is required, just show up. There is no charge for the round robin.

Instruction

Programming for 2023 has been revitalized with more offerings for both juniors and adults at all playing levels. Programs start late April and run through the entire season.

Junior Teams

Tryouts for Wanless Tennis Junior Teams tryouts continue this Friday April 21 from 4-6 PM. Reminder that you must be a member to play on a Wanless Team. Once tryouts are complete, we will then determine which leagues we will participate in based on the players we have, league schedules and required court time.

The leagues start early May and run for about 6 weeks, with matches being played on weekends.

Should you have any questions, please contact Laura Borza, our head pro.
