Wednesday evening Fall House League starts September 4 and continues for 7 weeks through to October 16. We return to the Spring format of matches scheduled based on players skill rating at 7 PM (2.0-3.0), 8 PM (3.5) or 9 PM (4.0+).
House League matches include both men and women, and are equalized based on the self-rating provided when registering. Self-rating is based on the Tennis Canada Player Rating Scale. Each player should apply the scale based on only their serve and the weakest of their forehand or backhand. Please be realistic about your self-rating. Do not “adjust” your rating in order to play at a preferred time slot. No one enjoys or benefits from a lopsided match.
House league is intended as an opportunity for everyone to get out and play with new partners and opponents, meet new people, and enjoy some friendly tennis. As a result, no requests to play only with one particular partner will be accommodated.
Some members seem to overstate their availability, resulting in submitting frequent spare requests and only actually “showing up” for a couple of their scheduled matches. Registration to actively play on a house league team should be a true commitment and expectation to play when scheduled, NOT a placeholder while juggling other competing interests. If you can’t specify and COMMIT to at least 4 dates within the 7 weeks, please sign up as a “spare only”.
The more successful teams benefit from active, positive leadership from their team captains. It’s actually not a lot of work (basically sending out a weekly reminder email of who’s playing and your team’s standings). We’re looking for some fresh folks to volunteer to be team captains this Fall rather than imposing (once again) on the same folks. So, if you’ve enjoyed the Wanless House Leagues, and being “serviced” in the shadows, it’s time to pitch in and check off the box for “captain” when you register.
Registration is now OPEN for Fall House Leagues in CourtReserve and will close at midnight on August 27. Schedules will be sent out by August 30. As registration numbers are limited, sign up now to avoid disappointment.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please email John Chenoweth.
