Wanless Tennis - April News

While the weather has been less than perfect to start the season, it has been great to see members out on the courts. Remember to mark your calendar for our opening BBQ and Tennis Social on Saturday May 4. This is a great opportunity to reconnect with our community, and meet new members of our club, staff and Board of Directors.

Welcome New Members

We welcomed over 50 new members to our club this year. Many enjoyed our “New Member Mix & Mingle” on April 9 at the new and local Taverna Yannis Greek Grill & Pub. This fun & friendship-filled evening included great food, cocktails and an orientation presentation that should set our new members up for a great year at Wanless Tennis. Remember that you can also refer to our New Member webpage. We look forward to seeing you all at our New Member/Club Ambassadors Round Robin on April 24!

Let’s Get Social

Please be sure to your calendars and keep your eyes on CourtReserve for our upcoming social events:

It’s Tennis Time

Check out the programs that are starting this month:

Adult Daytime Doubles Drop-Ins

Lucky enough to have some daytime schedule flexibility to play tennis? Looking to expand your circle of available playing partners? The popular Thursday morning adult drop-in returns for its 3rd season in a round robin format to promote social interaction.

The Thursday morning drop-in is from 10 AM to 12 PM on courts 4 & 5. No registration is necessary, just show up and a volunteer will assign you to a court. Shuffles will occur every half hour. You can come for the full two hours, or come and go whenever your schedule allows.

Adult Friday Night Live Ball

Live Ball started Friday, April 19! Live Ball is a fast-paced on-court experience that works on doubles strategy and strokes, particularly volleys. Please register by noon every Friday.

How it works: Two “challengers” compete for points against two “champions”. Every point starts with a feed from the coach to the challengers. If the challengers win three (3) points before the champions win two (2) points, the challengers become the champions.

Payment of $25.00 per player will be made in CourtReserve. To register, login to your Wanless CourtReserve account, go to “Clinics, Camps & Events”, and type “Live Ball” into the search field.

Adult Instruction

Programming for 2024 has been revitalized with more offerings for both juniors and adults at all playing levels. Programs start late April and run through the entire season.

A note from our new Club Manager … Shannon MacPherson

photo of Shannon MacPherson Wanless Tennis club Manager I've called the Wanless neighbourhood home for two decades now with my husband and 16-year-old son and I have been a member of the Wanless Tennis Club for the past 10 years. Throughout my membership, I've had the pleasure of getting to know many of you through various activities like evening house league, ladders, and clinics. Last year, I expanded my connections even further by participating in daytime programming.

The Wanless Tennis Club holds a special place in my heart, and I'm thrilled to step into the role of Club Manager this year! For those who haven't had the chance to meet me yet, you might recognize me from walks in the park with my big, brown Labradoodle, Dexter, or from lots of pickleball on the basketball court during the off-season (although tennis remains my true passion).

If we haven't crossed paths yet, don't hesitate to introduce yourself. I'll be spending time at the Clubhouse and making rounds at the courts to say hello. Here's to an incredible season ahead—I can't wait to share it with you all!
