End of Season 2022

As usual, our permit with the City of Toronto expires on October 31. We have also been informed that the water in the clubhouse will be turned off by the City on or around October 31. We cannot staff the Club without running water. The Club will therefore close as scheduled at the end of the day on Monday, October 31, after which no GameTime bookings will be available.

We are making arrangements with the City to leave the nets up and the courts unlocked so the courts can be open to the public — at least until the first snowfall, at which point we will take down the nets and lock the gates.

Note that as “public” courts, Wanless members will have no special privileges or priority on the courts. There will be no booking of courts, and members must follow the rules posted on the City of Toronto sign outside Court 1 for public use of the courts.

Thank you everyone for a great 2022 season. A heartfelt thank you to Arthur and the Instruction team and Richard Payne and the Member Services team who did such an amazing job throughout the season.

Winter Socials - 2023

After a few years off, we were able to resume our popular Wanless Winter Socials in February and March of 2022. Typically we reserve five or more courts at an indoor facility for two hours of tennis on a Saturday evening three times over the winter season. After tennis, players have the option to meet up for a drink & post-game snack at a local restaurant or pub. Details will be forthcoming early in the new year.

Wanless Cup Results

The Wanless Cup returned this season with a focus on mixed doubles competitive play for all members with and without competitive league experience. This event ran from Oct 3 to Oct 15, with the finals being played over the weekend of the AGM and closing barbeque. Teams consisted of 9-10 players and matches were played in a Fast4 format which enabled play to proceed quickly as there were no advantage scores and the first to four games won the set. Some great matches were played, members met and played with some new people and lots of fun was had by all participants.

Congratulations to the winning Team 3: Debanish Ray, Andrew Kingsmill, Eric Anderson, Stan Chow, John Chenoweth, Marisa Di Monte, Jean Poon, Ann Haslett and Joyce Lee-Assang.
