Junior Match Play

Junior Match Play will start this Saturday, April 16 and is for all junior members who are interested in playing more matches and competitive points. The program is offered to all junior levels (age 7-18 years old), from Novice to High Performance.

Unlike clinics which focus on technique, coaches will primarily concentrate on the players’ decision-making skills and positioning on the court. Participants will have the opportunity to play different players of similar levels, work on match strategy, and improve their competitive edge.

Details:

• Targeted to players who have at least some point/match experience.
• Sign up is on a weekly basis.
• Two sessions will be offered: 10 - 11:30 AM & 11:30 - 1 PM. Players will be divided between sessions based on age and ability.
• Total of 24 slots available, 12 per session (max. of 4 players per court).
• Payment of $19.95 per player will be made ten minutes before the start time at the courts using credit card or tap-enabled device.
• Sessions are run by Wanless Tennis Pros, led by Cyprien Tacq.

Demand is typically high for this program. No-shows will impact the ability for teaching professionals to properly plan the session.

You will be contacted by end of day Wednesday for confirmation and which session you’ll be participating in.

Junior Team Tennis Tryouts - Friday April 22

In past seasons, prior to taking a two year break, Wanless fielded teams in both the Tennis Toronto and Intercounty Tennis Association (ICTA) Leagues.

The Tennis Toronto League is doubles play and targets club level recreational players. Matches are all held across the City.

The ICTA League competes at a somewhat higher level. Matches are held east of Yonge Street as far as Port Hope, and as far north as Richmond Hill. Teams in the ITCA league are open to any players under 18 and include both singles and double play.

Parents are responsible for transport to all away matches and to ensure their children are available to play as scheduled. Children need to be able to play full court tennis to be considered.

We will be holding tryouts for our 2022 inter-club junior teams as follows:

• Under 10 & Under 14 at 4:00 PM April 22
• Under 18 at 5:00 PM April 22

Team practices will be on Fridays from 4 – 6 PM. Matches take place on weekends throughout the months of May and June. The tryouts are free but there will be a cost associated with coaching and match supervision.

Once we have determined interest levels and completed the tryouts, we will confirm which leagues we will be entering.

Did you know?

• The ball machine is available on weekdays from 10 AM to 4 PM (last booking at 3 PM) and on weekends from 1 PM to 7 PM (last booking at 6 PM).
• GameTime has a Waitlist feature. When viewing the grid of available courts and times, click on “Waitlist” in the top right corner. Click on “Join the Waitlist” and fill out the form. If a court becomes available, GameTime will automatically reserve the court for you if you have available bookings and send you an email.

Reminders

• Please cancel your booking if you are unable to play. Failure to show up for your booked court time will result in your booking privileges being suspended for 7 days.
• Cash is not accepted for any payments. All payments for ball machine rentals, guest fees, Live Ball, Junior Match Play, etc., must be paid by credit or debit card or tap-enabled device (phone, watch, etc.,) at the Clubhouse 10 minutes prior to the start of your booking.
