Information, Rules and Regulations

The Annual Club Tournament events will commence on Wednesday evening, September 3rd and continue until the finals are completed on Saturday, October 4th and Sunday, October 5th.
Tournament sign up sheets will be posted in the clubhouse starting Friday, August 1st, 2008. Players must sign-up in person at the clubhouse. Entries by telephone or e-mail will not be accepted, nor responded to/actioned.

Players entering Senior events must sign up before the clubhouse closes on Monday, September 1st so that all event draws can be created and posted in the clubhouse for Tuesday, September 2rd .

Players entering Junior events must sign up before the clubhouse closes on Monday, September 8th so that all event draws can be created and posted in the clubhouse for Wednesday, September 10th .
Club Tournament will consist of 10 Seniors' events and 8 Juniors' events in the following categories:

Seniors (Members over 16 as of January 1st 2008):
- Men's Singles (A and B skill levels)
- Women's Singles (A and B skill levels)
- Men's Doubles (A and B skill levels)
- Women's Doubles (A and B skill levels)
- Mixed Doubles (A and B skill levels)
Note: Juniors who have previously won their Under 16 singles' event, or the Junior Doubles event, may enter the Seniors' events, if they wish. Eligible Juniors who choose to enter Seniors' event(s) cannot also participate in the same category of event(s) at the Junior level.

Juniors (Members under 16 as of January 1st 2008):
- Junior Novice Singles (Boys and Girls combined)
- Boy's Singles (Under 16, Under 14, Under 12)
- Girl's Singles (Under 16, Under 14, Under 12)
- Junior Doubles (Boys and Girls of all ages combined)
Eligibility for each junior category is based on the player's age as of January 1st, 2008. Younger Junior players may choose to enter a higher age singles' event to enjoy more advanced competition/challenge, but they can only enter one singles' event. Junior Novice is a junior member who may have attended the novice lessons and has not really played full games yet. They need to be able to serve from the baseline and play full court. Help with scoring and positioning will be provided for the Junior Novice event..
For Seniors, each category of events will begin with an "All Players" opening round to be played on the following dates:
- Mixed Doubles Wednesday, September 3rd 6pm - 10 pm
- Men's Doubles Thursday, September 4th 6pm - 10 pm
- Women's Doubles Friday, September 5th 6pm - 10 pm
- Men's Singles Saturday, September 6th 12pm - 6 pm
- Women's Singles Sunday, September 7th 1pm - 6 pm
To participate in the Club Tournament in any of these categories, players must be available to play their first match on these dates and within the times indicated. Specific times for all players' first matches in each category will be posted in the clubhouse on Tuesday September 2nd.

We have adopted this format to establish an objective approach for all players to determine who should compete within either the A or B level events for each category. The more skilled players (winners) in the "All Players" rounds will continue to the associated A level draw within each category, while the lesser skilled players will form the B level draw. Entrants who default (cannot play) a schedule match in the "All Players" round will be removed from that tournament category completely and will not be placed in either the subsequent A or B level draws. Players who advance by default from the "All Players" opening rounds will be placed in either the A or B level draws at the sole discretion of the Tournament Director.

Another benefit of this format is the early completion of the initial rounds within each category, which represent the greatest number of matches and greatest difficulty/burden for members if they were required to personally co-ordinate scheduling and booking of all opening matches. By ensuring a fast and effective start to each event, we reduce contention and maximize court availability for players' scheduling of subsequent matches in all later rounds throughout the tournament period.
For Juniors, the 1st round for all events will be played on the following dates:
- Boy's Singles Saturday, September 13th 8am - 11am
- Girl's Singles Saturday, September 13th 11am - 2pm
- Junior Doubles Sunday, September 14th 8am - 11am
- Junior Novice Saturday, September 27th 8am - 11am (complete event/all rounds)
Players must be available to play their opening match on these dates and within the times indicated to participate in these Club Tournament events. The draw sheets identifying the timing and pairings of all 1st round matches within these events will be posted in the Clubhouse on Wednesday, September 10th .
To sign up for the tournament, you must be reasonably available to play at least one match each week, for every event entered, from September 3rd to October 5th. The draw sheets for all events will be posted and maintained in the clubhouse. As players advance through each event, the draw sheets identify the pairings of opponents for each match/round and the latest date that each match/round must be completed by, in order for the tournament to remain on schedule through to the finals weekend. With the exception of pre-scheduled "All Players" rounds for each category, participants are personally responsible for contacting their opponent(s) and scheduling a mutually convenient time to complete their match prior to the specified deadlines for each round. Typically players will be required to complete their matches within each round within a week.
Winners must inform the Court Monitor in the clubhouse of the match results immediately upon completion of the match. If the clubhouse is closed, winners shall leave a message on the club's answering machine (416-483-4546) on the day of the match. The Court Monitors will then record the score on the Tournament Draw sheets posted in the clubhouse. The player is still responsible for contacting the clubhouse during operating hours to identify their opponent for the following round. When an advancing player's next round opponent is already identified on the draw sheets (i.e. their opponent previously played/won their match), the advancing player who completes the pairings is responsible for promptly contacting his/her opponent to schedule their match so that it will be completed within the deadlines identified on the draw sheets for each round.
When calling the clubhouse to book a court for tournament play, please tell the Club Monitor that you are making a booking for tournament play so he/she can update the information on the tournament draw sheets. This ensures that the Tournament Director can easily see that all tournament events/rounds are proceeding smoothly and get involved to resolve scheduling difficulties that may jeopardize the successful progress of the tournament.
Tournament participants will receive one complimentary call before all first matches in the Seniors' "All Players" rounds and the Juniors' events. However, participants without an answering machine will be responsible for determining their first round schedule from the draw sheets posted in the clubhouse.
Players should arrive for their matches 10 minutes prior to the start of their court booking and check-in at the clubhouse. Warm-up time is 10 minutes. Players who are more than 10 minutes late for a scheduled match will automatically forfeit the match and the opponent(s) that was on time will proceed to the next round.
All matches will be Pro 10 (first to win 10 games) with a 7-point tiebreaker at 9-9, except the Semi-Finals and Finals. Semi-Finals and Finals will be best 2 out of 3 Sets, 7-point tiebreaker at 6-6. In the event of a rain interruption, play must start from the last point played.
No coaching or outside interference is allowed once a match has begun. If this occurs, the non-coached player has the right to immediately take the game (current game only) as his/her game won.
Each participant will bring a NEW can of balls to each match. The winner of the match keeps the new balls for the next round and the loser keeps the used balls. Balls will be provided for the finals only!
Please call the lines fairly and give the benefit of the doubt to your opponents for close calls. Rules shall follow Tennis Canada's "Rules of the Court". Watch those foot-faults!
The Tournament Director's decision is binding in case of any disputes.
