Wanless Tennis Club Teams

The club fields 5 competitive Adult inter-club teams playing both home and away matches. These teams compete in various categories against other tennis clubs in the City of Toronto. We also field a variety of Junior Teams. More information may be found in the Adult Teams and Junior Teams topics on our member forums.

All Wanless Teams comply with the following club policy.

Women's Tennis Teams

We have 2 ladies' teams that play on Monday evenings and 1 ladies' team that plays on Wednesday mornings in the Toronto Ladies Tennis League. This is the oldest league in the city, it has been in operation for over 75 years. The playing schedules are posted on the league web site at the beginning of the season. This is a doubles league. Each evening team consists of four pairings each night with both home and away matches. The daytime team consists of three pairings each morning with both home and away matches. The Division 1 evening team will have Anneke Spira as the acting captain. The Division 4 evening team will be captained by Lynda Bottoms. The Daytime team is co-captained by Jennifer Millson and Dawn Taylor.

Men's Tennis Teams

We will have 2 men's teams in the Toronto Men's Tennis League. Both the A1 and B1 teams play on Tuesday evenings. These are also a doubles league with four pairings each night with home and away matches. The team tryout schedule (TBA) can be found here. The league schedule and results can be found on these pages at the TMTL web site. The A1 team will be captained by Andrew Nisker and Jason Pun. The B1 team will be captained by Jan Mahrt-Smith and Peder Enhorning.

Wanless Tennis Club Junior Teams

Junior teams participate in the OTA Central Region Junior Doubles League. This league has two age divisions (U12 & U18). Matches are from 5-6pm for the Under 12's and from 6-7pm for the Under 18's on 7 consecutive Saturday nights in May and June (excluding the Victoria Day Weekend). This league is an entry league for those not yet participating in provincial tournaments.

This year, Wanless Park Tennis Club is proud to be the host of the 2011 Tennis Toronto Finals during the afternoon of Saturday June 16th.

The club also enters a Mixed Majors Junior team in the Intercounty league playing Sunday afternoons. The Intercounty League plays matches in a World Team Tennis format. We also have a Girls A Team in this league. This is a competitive team for Girls in two age groups (Under 14 & Under 18). The Girls team plays on Saturdays in May and June.

Junior OTA Tournament Touring Team. (U14, U16, U18)

The focus of this group will be to play local Ontario Tennis Association (OTA) Junior Tournaments starting with the Rookie Tournaments and progressing. The hope is that the team will play at least 4 OTA tournaments within the Greater Toronto Area.

Junior will need to be registered with the OTA (cost $42.00) in addition there are tournament entry fees payable at the time of registration. After their first tournament each child will obtain a provincial ranking within their age category.

As a touring team the children will be able to support each other at these events as well as practice and warm-up as a team. For parents, organized car pooling will help support transportation logistics. The objective is to enjoy the rewards of competitive tennis without unnecessary performance stress and anxiety.

The Touring Tournament group will train on Wednesdays from 4 - 6pm starting April 20th.

Junior Team Tryouts will be held on April 19th and 20th for those interested in playing on the Wanless Junior Teams. Under 12s from 4-5pm and under 18s from 5-6pm.
